Many thanks ShopStyle

I have been aware of the benefits of ShopStyle for a little while now. It is a great place to search for an item across a wide platform of shopping sites. Not until today however have I seen its great capacity for comparison shopping.

Yesterday after doing some research at the Bloomingdales beauty counters and Michelle searched for a new winter coat, we hit up the shoe department. This is where I found my perfect shoe. Belle by Sigerson Morrison created a shoe so perfectly suited to me that I couldn't have even imagined it myself. Behold the intersection of moccasin and loafer with a slight punk edge. The $345 Bloomies wanted to charge me seemed prohibitively expensive, but thanks to ShopStyle, I found them on ShopBop for a *mere* $295!

This does make me wonder—since when is ShopBop cheaper than anywhere else and what does Bloomies think they're doing marking something up so much? Aren't people turned off enough by department stores already?

Mer-woman

I totally love this cuff- cast from a vintage swizzle stick, just like the kind I steal from the bar at the Rusty Knot. I leave with pockets full of mermaids. Now hopefully with one on my wrist.
Buy on etsy.

Freemont

Remember that Alexander Wang for Uniqlo dress you wanted so much you could cry. Remember considering ripping it off the girl you saw wearing it at fashion week. Well, Freemont's Jane dress has a similar exposed back and cute front pockets. It is really not as cute and is way more expensive, but as they say desperate times call for desperate measures.

GImme Gimme Gimme

This week I take on RavenStyle.com and Raven Style punches right back with badass Fall inventory. The Hayden Harnett Martine leather jacket is a definite statement piece that combines vaguely vintage and modern shapes. Worn with these Matt Bernson Moto boots, the look is total downtown tough girl. For an unexpectedly feminine touch, layer the Juliet Dress from Secrets of Charm underneath. The dress keeps the slightly vintage/very unique vibe and is short enough to go unseen underneath the jacket, which is really the whole point, right? Is she or isn't she...

Little Black Backpack

Lately I've taken to putting on the first item I see when I walk into a store. Then I walk around and shop wearing said item. I don't know why I do it and it makes sales people pretty uncomfortable.
Last weekend the victim was the accessories department at Barney's Co-Op. I picked up this Alexander Wang stunner (that I've been lusting over for a while) and instead of swinging it over my shoulder, I pulled the chain straps through the holes on the sides. Believe me when I tell you- this bag makes a SWEET backpack. I've drawn this handy diagram so you can imagine it for yourself, but duh it does not do it justice.
This time, instead of crazy looks from the sales people, the head of the accessories department gave me her card so she could help me in the future. I think my shopping experimentation is really heading in the right direction.

Keep Dreaming

I've been loving these earrings or actually this earring (sold alone) from Pixie Market. It is made by the aptly named Daydream Nation. In my mind, when I put it on I transform into Alice Dellal as photographed by Garance Dore. Keep Dreaming.

Two Thumbs up!

I saw one of these two sitting outside Balthazar's yesterday. Now in my mind I just barely missed seeing this exact exchange.

I think you are wonderful.

Thanks to PopFemenist for showing me these fan letters to Marylin Monroe on VanityFair.com. They make me want to send fan mail to my favorite icons, but somehow I get the sense Karl doesn't want me sending him a crayon drawing of a heart.

1 Room

I want to want to live in one of these tiny homes featured in the recent NYT article, but really I like totally want to buy one and use it as the best closet ever. So much for living off the grid.

Gimme Gimme Gimme, Part 2

This is the second installment of what could become a regular feature. I pick my 3 favorite items from one of my favorite online stores. Realistically I don't think any store has more than 3 items that are truly worth buying. While I may want it all, the editing process is key.
This time I take a look at Gargyle and Karen Walker's MAJOR Navajo Anthropod Jet Plane dress. Even better, it is made of sweatshirt material and puff paint, reminding me of actually everything I wore in 3rd grade. Paired with this Giles & Brother 10-strand necklace and F-Troupe mens high foxing boots (here's to having huge feet) I'll be feeling comfy cute and ready to step in puddles now that fall has officially arrived.

Waist not, want not. Belts.

Belts are one of my favorite accessories to play with. They're easy to mix and match with, pretty cheap, and can change an entire outfit. Every season I come up with a new way I like to abuse the original intent of belts. This summer, I twisted and looped the end through instead of using the buckle holes. This season, I'm all about these two looks from 3.1 Phillip Lim and Marc by Marc Jacobs. Next time you see me, I'll be wearing either a bow that's bigger than a bread box or no less than 2 belts, but no more than 5.

Welcome to America

TopShop has finally opened its US online store. I am not sure if knowing the actual costs or just guessing at exchange rates is better. And when you think about it, $100 is still pretty good for a feather gillet. Yes. A feather gillet.

My Thoughts Exactly

I think Jack and Laz have been reading my mind because as soon as I've officially decided on my new hair style for fall (I decided Saturday in fact) I see it on the runway.
The look is a little bit Alice Dellal and totally easy. I've been tinkering with a french braid holding back slicked back side.
Also, it looks like I'll be wanting another pair of Proenza sunnies soon.

Collage. Coolage. Collawesome.

Thanks to bored and beautiful for tipping us off to Jens Windolf's awesome awesome flickr stream.

Gimme Gimme Gimme

I have always liked Mick Margo's online boutique, but I recently stopped into their Commerce Street store due to a dangerous proximity to Milk & Cookies. Yummm. These three perfect items are just as delicious as two double chocolate chip cookies sandwiching mint gelato. Yummmmm.
I think I could be happy all fall wearing these every day.
Jerome Dreyfus Suede Billy Bag
Sari Elephant Print Silk Tank
Devotte Lace Up Boots

Attendance is Mandatory

Fashion Week officially starts tonight. I'm going to see the Mandate of Heaven show. I'm expecting something fun and imaginative. This season is based on story book characters. I'm hoping to see Humpty Dumpty walking down the runway.

lewis !!!!

I am so happy to announce that the lovely and talented Alison Lewis has launched her new line lewis. Her website went up minutes ago and it all looks so wonderful.
I was lucky enough to help out on the photo shoot for the lookbook which was shot by Ali Gershman and features Spacey Tracey. The website was designed by designedmemory and once again, their work is spot on.
Enjoy the clothes- they are majorly lust worthy and a sign that we have things to look forward to for Spring/Summer 09 and beyond!
I think I restrained myself with exclamation points, but I feel !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! about lewis.

Not in those cowboypants

And I could not be prouder that he says my love of fashion inspires him to be more adventurous.
Cutoff jean shorts were always meant to be worn with fur and whoever said they weren't was lying.
